1. Guidelines for abstracts

The abstract and can be understood as a serious intention of the author(s) to submit a full paper later. Please note, that the submission of an abstract is a prerequisite to submit a full paper. All abstracts shall be submitted as blinded versions, in order to ensure a double-blind review process.

If author(s) are interested in submitting a workshop proposal, please note that there is a later submission deadline.

The abstract will be reviewed by the Programme Committee (PC) to evaluate its suitability for the conference. Author(s) will receive qualitative feedback on their abstract. If an abstract is accepted, author(s) can upload a full paper until the submission deadline for full papers. However, the acceptance of the abstract does not mean that a contribution has been finally accepted for the conference. The final decision about the acceptance will be made based on a double-blind peer-review process for full paper submissions.

An abstract shall contain a maximum of 250 words. It will directly be added into a text field (called ‘abstracts’) within the submission system. Author(s) do not need to upload any files at this stage of the submission process.

Abstract for concept papers

Additionally to the general guidelines for the submission of an abstract, please consider the following concept-paper-specific guidelines. The abstracts should be aligned with the review criteria for concept paper and inform at least about:

• WHY has this work been undertaken? (rationale for the work)
• WHAT has been done? (scope of the work)
• HOW has the work been done? (methodological approach)
• WHAT have you found so far? (main findings of the work)


Abstract for research papers

Additionally to the general guidelines for the submission of an abstract, please consider the following research-paper-specific guidelines. The abstracts should be aligned with the review criteria for research paper and inform at least about:

• WHY has this research been undertaken? (rationale for the study)
• WHAT has been done in that research? (scope of the study)
• HOW has the research been done? (methodological approach with special emphasis on research question and research design)
• WHAT have you found so far? (data analysis and results)

2. General guidelines for full paper

A template for full paper is available here.

All full papers shall be submitted as blind versions, in order to ensure a double-blind review process. When you upload the full paper you need to choose among different session formats and upload a second file where you specify how you intend to organize your session. 

This second file is a necessary upload as reviewers will use the information provided for the review process. The Local Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee are trying to implement new interactive session formats. Thus, authors are encouraged to reflect upon how they plan to conduct their session already at this stage of the submission process. Reviewers are asked to evaluate the information provided and recommend the most appropriate session format in case of acceptance of a full paper.

NOTE: If you encounter problems in uploading files during the full paper submission, check the specific guidelines on how to choose the session format and upload the required files.

3. General guidelines for workshops

Please be aware of that the submission and review process for workshops differ from full paper contributions. People interested in submitting a proposal for a workshop only have to submit an extended abstract of max. 500 words. All workshop proposals shall be submitted as blinded versions, in order to ensure a double-blind review process. The proposals should be aligned with the review criteria for round table discussions.

The extended abstract should cover at least:

• WHAT can session participants expect to gain? (motivation & learning outcomes)
• WHY is that session relevant? (rationale of the session)
• HOW are session participants engaged? (engagement of and interaction with session participants in alignment with expected learning outcomes)
• HOW will results be summarized? (take home for session participants)

4. General guidelines for round table discussions

Please be aware of that the submission and review process for round table discussions differs from full paper contributions. People interested in submitting a proposal for a round table discussion only have to submit an extended abstract of max. 500 words. All proposals for round table discussion shall be submitted as blinded versions, in order to ensure a double-blind review process. The proposals should be aligned with the review criteria for workshops.

The extended abstract should cover at least:

• WHAT shall be discussed? (highly focused topic)
• WHY is that discussion relevant within EE? (rationale of the topic)
• WHAT can session participants expect to gain? (motivation & learning outcomes)
• HOW can session participants prepare? (preparation material)
